How this judgement is made

This judgement summarises overall appreciation. Fragrantica provides the basis; Olfamo reviews contribute from 20 responses onwards, with growing weight. A marked disagreement is shown separately. Here are the rules, the actual counts and the dates by origin: they do not represent a total of distinct people.

Converting overall appreciation

Origins taken into account

An origin enters the judgement from 20 ratings, with a complete distribution and exact counts adding up to the stated total.

If only one origin reaches this threshold, the judgement is its own: “According to Fragrantica” or “According to Olfamo members”. If none does, the page shows “Not enough data yet” with the data available.

Basenotes is shown separately, with its own categories and counts: it is used neither in the calculation nor in detecting a disagreement.

Parfumo is not taken into account: its data do not allow a distribution to be reconstructed.

Marked disagreement

When both origins reach the threshold and their favourable shares differ by at least 25 points, the page shows “Diverging opinions between Fragrantica and Olfamo” and both distributions, with no further judgement. This threshold describes a gap, not a statistical test.

Combination

Otherwise the Fragrantica distribution and Olfamo reviews are combined. Fragrantica weighs as much as its number of ratings, capped at 50; each Olfamo review counts once, so their weight grows with their number. This weight is neither a number of members nor a number of votes.

Labels

The first applicable label is used, based on unrounded shares:

ConditionLabel
favourable at least 80% and unfavourable at most 10%Highly appreciated
unfavourable at least 60%Little appreciated
favourable and unfavourable at least 30% eachPolarised opinions
favourable at least 70%Appreciated
favourable more than 50%Fairly appreciated
in all other casesMixed appreciation

Precision and dates

A count abbreviated by the source (for example “1.2k”) is shown with “about” and is not used in the calculation; the latest exact observation is then used, with its own date.

The observation date is always shown. After more than 90 days, the note “Dated data” is added; the data are still used, with no loss of weight. A new import does not make an observation more recent.

Separate criteria

Longevity, sillage, seasons, times of day and value for money are shown separately, each on its own scale and with its origin. None changes the judgement. Value for money is an opinion, with no price or currency.
